As some of you know, I have always been a huge fan, advocate, and user of LinkedIn but they have always had one downfall.
The likes of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest have extensive hashtag search functionality which is where LinkedIn has fallen short… until now.
With one in every three professional on the planet using LinkedIn and social media being a huge part of how small businesses connect with their target audience, it was no secret that LinkedIn’s users were getting frustrated with the lack of hashtag search functionality.
I’ve always used hashtags in all my LinkedIn posts regardless and funny enough someone asked me in a LinkedIn group this week, why? why do it? well I’ve always felt that hashtags had grown beyond Twitter and was becoming a more generic established way of tagging content information across platforms, so it was always a matter of time before LinkedIn followed the trend and i wanted all my content that already existed in LinkedIn to be ready and primed with hashtags.
Well it looks like its happened. here’s a quote from a LinkedIn post from late August.
“Hashtags included in your posts (or others) are now tappable and lead to search results so that you can discover other posts with the same hashtag. Simply add a hashtag to your post and it will be automatically available publicly, or if you want it to be only visible to your connections you can easily change your sharing settings (more on privacy below). As you would expect, you can also search for a hashtag to see all public posts tagged with it.”
This is a great step forward for LinkedIn as hashtags have become a huge part of every small businesses social media strategy. This new hashtag functionality is only available on the Mobile App but LinkedIn have said they will be launching their new functionality to all members, on all platforms.
I don’t think this will be the end of it, there is a clear trend on LinkedIn to make it into more of a business content platform and making content more searchable and using things like hashtags to tag content together is just the start. So I think a lot more to come.
65% of B2B companies say they’ve acquired customers through LinkedIn so I do believe its a critical platform to do business on which is why it’s one of our key platforms for using zubbit on and sharing content via zubbit links.
